High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a highly crystalline thermoplastic with a density typically between 0.941 and 0.960, which is lower than the density of water. This material has an opaque white waxy appearance and good flexibility and toughness. Compared with low-density polyethylene (LDPE), HDPE is slightly inferior in hardness and ductility, but its non-toxic and odorless properties make it meet the standards of food-grade materials, so it is widely used in equipment and containers that come into direct contact with drinking water.
HDPE is particularly resistant to weathering and corrosion. The material can effectively resist the erosion of most acids, alkalis and organic solvents, and can still maintain the stability of its physical and chemical properties under harsh environmental conditions such as high temperature, low temperature, humidity and ultraviolet radiation.
